Youth Committee Minutes

Many apologies - I was going through my actions at the weekend and realised I hadn't 'submitted' this. Here are our discussions/actions from our last Youth Committe - lots of actions and great ideas that we are all going to work together on to progress and complete.

SHARKS YOUTH COMMITTEE MEETING

MINUTES FROM 31ST MAY 2025

At this meeting we focused on a couple of actions raised at out last meeting.  Our aim being to start moving forward with some of our ideas/questions/actions. 

1.       Charity Event – To work with Swadlincote ski centre and raise money for charity.  The ideas bantered about were; ski Everest (or something similar) raising money for mileage/kilometres skied, raffle, ski bingo, BBQ, party games, water fight (depending on weather), bouncy castle, car boot sale, dress up competition.  Agreed all were good ideas that would bring people together and raise money.  Actions:  LD to speak with Sandra at Swad to discuss options, dates, etc.   Youth committee members to feed into Alfie (AD) their ideas as some need a little more ‘meat on the bones’.  All need to consider who this should be open to – Sharks only or invite other clubs (more people more funds for charity). 

2.      Ski Life Awards – Andy Duncan joined the group to provide an insight into the awards that we were looking to re-introduce. Discussed that each person would be assessed regularly and awarded badges depending on their ability.  This would be recorded in their own book/log, keeping an up to date record of where they were and what they need to do to achieve the next badge.  Everyone was really excited about this and agreed we would have regular presentations.

3.      Race Day – Briefly touched on this, it is work in progress but due to the amount of other races taking place, within the ski community, it was difficult to finalise a date.  Action: LD to take this to the committee meeting and book a date (then we can begin to plan – estimated date 4th quarter of 2025). Andy Cresswell is currently working on producing a database that will automatically record timings for the race event. 

4.      Holiday – We plan to organise another holiday in 2026, more information will be available after the next committee meeting.  Expected holiday to take place in April 2026.  All were excited to hear more.

Next meeting discussions

·         Clothing – discussed at the last meeting, there is an appetite to expend our clothing/merchandise range.  Action: AD has already started the ball rolling on this so will provide more information at the next meeting and then take to the committee for sign off

·         Fun Events – all wanted to see more fun events organised throughout the year.  Charity event being one, Rother Valley is also due to be booked.  There are the normal Halloween and Christmas events and it is possible that we may arrange a social bike ride.  Due to the summer holidays fast approaching we may struggle to get anything more in before Xmas but we can discuss and begin to arrange for the beginning of 2026.

Feedback received – all thought these meetings were good and would like them to continue.  Everyone is really pleased to hear of the Ski Life awards and can’t wait to be awarded with their first badges.

All agreed we would all work together to progress the ideas from this meeting and the last Youth Committee meeting.
