We use Snowlife Awards levels to progress learners through their development. Asessments will be carried out during your normal saturday sessions under the watchful eye of our Head Coach. On completion of the award, you will be presented with your badge by the club Captain Team. - Happy skiing

Snowlife 1 Star Award
-
I have tried skiing before. I can put my skis on and off. I can climb sideways up a gentle hill and ski down, controlling my speed by ploughing.
-
-
I can stop when I need to on the nursery runs

Snowlife 2 Star Award Whales
-
I can ski down controlling my speed and direction of travel by ploughing
-
I can make big and little turns and avoid other skiers. I can use an easy ski lift (poma or t-bar)
-
In a plough position link turns to left and right
-
Link turns left and right of equal radius
-
Follow track of the Instructor – keeping same distance all the time.
-
In pairs – follow my leader – ie turning where the leader turns.
-
Make emergency stop in plough position
-
Ski Safety Awareness eg. Parking at side of slope; Looking up slope before setting off. Etc..
-

Snowlife 3 Star Award Tigers
-
I can ski faster and make plough parallel turns, where I start the turns in a plough and finish with my skis parallel.
-
I can make a series of linked turns on green and easy blue run
-
Big turns using full width of slope (Turn – Traverse – Turn)
-
As above – skis coming together on traverse, moving into plough to make turn. Left and Right. (Plough Swing)
-
Complete short slalom course
-
Follow Instructor varying speed and turn radius.
-
Ski over bumps absorbing them. (Flex and Extend)
-
Ski Safety Awareness - put ski on after fall ON slope.

Snowlife 4 Star Award Swordfish
-
I am very confident with my plough parallel turns and my skis are naturally becoming parallel earlier in the turns, sometimes before the fall line.
-
My turns are smoother and more S shaped. I am happy skiing on all blue runs.
-
Balance drills whilst traversing – eg lift upper ski
-
Emergency stop when instructed
-
Ski from top, starting in narrow plough – finish at bottom with skis near basic parallel – i.e. ‘The Funnel’
-
In pairs, follow leader varying speed and turn radius.
-
Write letter ‘S’ in snow with skis whilst skiing.
-
Go over small jump taking little air, flexing legs on landing.

Snowlife 5 Star Award Swordfish 2
-
I am consistently making parallel turns on all blue and easy red runs. Both my skis are turning at the same time.
-
I still need to improve on balance and posture. I am confidently skiing all blues and easy red run.
-
Long radius turns showing flexing and extending
-
8 Linked ‘S’ shaped turns in given corridor
-
‘J’ Turn to left and right. (Falling Leaf)
-
Establish ‘Home Base’ position.
-
Shorter radius linked turns and appropriate posture to cope with speed.

Snowlife 6 Star Award Porbeagles
-
I am learning to use a well coordinated pole plant to improve my balance and timing. My parallel turns are smoother and more rhythmical.
-
I am working on improving flow from one turn to another.
-
Various radius turns using appropriate posture to enable pole planting
-
CARVED ‘J’ turns with pole plant to left and right.
-
‘J’ Turn with hockey stop to left and right.
-
Initiate turn with pole plant and simultaneous small jump to left and right.

Snowlife 7 Star Award Hammerheads
-
I am becoming more confident in tackling challenging terrain. I can make really smooth turns with a well coordinated pole plant.
-
I can vary the radii of my turns to suit changes in gradient, whilst remaining in control of speed and line of travel. I can ski comfortably on steeper terrain.
-
Long radius turns; press against inside edge of uphill ski BEFORE fall line
-
and hold until finish of turn.
-
● Ski narrow corridor varying speed and pole plant
-
● Demonstrate pole plant in moguls.
-
● Complete slalom course
-
● Short radius turns with pole plant.

Snowlife 8 Star Award
Smoothhounds
I can ski a steep and narrow run making a series of rhythmical, balanced turns with a positive pole plant. I can remain in the fall line whilst still controlling my speed.
I can change direction on easier slopes by rolling from edge to edge only using the shape and sidecut of the ski with no skidding. I can ski red and black runs with confidence.
Ski on groomed steeper red or black runs making a series of rythmical, medium radius turns whilst always maintaing good posture and balance
Can only be assesd on snow/ in Mountains

Snowlife 9 Star Award Galapagos
-
I can make a fall line descent in medium size bumps showing good posture and a well timed pole plant.
-
I can make linked rhythmic short and medium radius turns in powder and cut up terrain whilst controlling speed and line
-
Descend a piste covered with soft, cut up and uneven snowapproximately ski boot depth, making a series of linked rythmical arcs of small to medium radius.
-
Can only be assesd on snow/ in Mountains
