Race
Race/Slalom training takes place on the 4th Saturday in each month under the direction of Snowsport England coach Norman Gill and ex-England Alpine Squad Team Member Frank Reardon.
For many years, groups or individual ‘Sharks’ have attended the Summer Race Leagues at Ski Rossendale, Lancashire and Festival Park Ski Club, Stoke, and, as winter approaches, the Winter Race League Series at Pendle, also in Lancashire. Fun races are an ideal introduction to racing and are aimed at skiers with little or no experience of competition who want to get into racing. These events also appeal to established performers wishing to gain competition experience without the normal race day pressures and skiers who want to have fun and try something different on a plastic slope amongst friends.
Individual timed runs, head to head racing and tag team relays are the making of the day and all ages and abilities of skier are actively encouraged to take part. The leagues have become quite a social event and are traditionally well represented by Sharks with the participants regularly spanning 6 – 60 years of age.
The fun race series is organised by race team manager and level 2 instructor Paul Smith. He’s the man to talk to should you require the dates and any further information on any of these particular race circuits. Paul generally participates in the events themselves and, thus, is on hand to offer advice, tips and any morale boosting that may be required.
As the skier gains more experience they can compete at Snowsport England race level by participating in the Club National and National Grand Prix circuits, National Championships and even on snow in Scotland and abroad.
You will find upcoming training and racing events advertised on the Sharks Website and Facebook page.
