Sharks Holiday 2018

Due to circumstances way beyond our control, the Sharks 2018 holiday has been changed from Wengen, Switzerland, to Champoluc, Italy.  The dates remain the same 31st March to 7th April or depart 30th April (Good Friday) when flights may be cheaper.

The reason being, that the Mannlichenbahn Company (the lift system) have decided to close on March 31st (the day we were due to arrive) This is due to them installing a complete new lift system and they have said that this work needs to start on 1st April

The lateness in this decision, is because ALL the Wengen & Grindelwald Hoteliers have been campaigning to keep it all open until after Easter, but having had many meetings have been unsuccessful.  Everyone is disappointed and angry with this decision.  We are also very, very sorry.

On the positive side, at very short notice, we have managed to provisionally book the Peti Prince Hotel in Champoluc, Italy.

A school has already ‘provisionally’ booked this hotel for the same dates, therefore we need to act very quickly to secure it.  This means that you must contact Ski2 and pay your deposit asap.  Details of how this is done will be sent later when full details of costs etc. will be sent out on this Thursday 20th April.  (It is Easter, and the office is closed)

Again, our sincere apologies for the change in venue, but where ever Sharks go, it is always a fun packed holiday.

Molly Gill,

On behalf of Sharks holiday committee.

Safeguarding Training

Safeguarding Children and Young People –
Initial Training and Refresher Course

Saturday 17th June at Castleford Snozone 11.30m to 1.30pm

Dear Sharks Instructors and Trainee Instructors,
As you all are aware it is a requirement that to gain, and to retain, your UK Snowsport qualification you must have completed the following:

  • You must be registered as a member of Snowsport England / UK Coaching Scheme
  • A technical training Course along with the necessary amount of practical hours
  • Have passed an assessment
  • A current First Aid Certificate
  • Have attended a Safeguarding Children & Young People training Course

Is there anyone else who would like to attend the Training?

The training is not limited to instructors/instructor trainees.  If capacity allows we will open the course to any Sharks Ski Club Member.
If you are interested Please contact: Molly or Norman or Julie.

The cost of this Training Course is £20 each.
You will receive a Certificate and this will last you 3 years until your next refresher.

Please Note:
The course content includes some descriptive issues around specific types of child abuse. Sadly it is something that needs to be addressed.

Should any parent be concerned about this then please talk to Molly, Julie or Norman.

Any parent who wishes to sit in on this training may do so, without charge and without certificate.

Please think carefully about this as we do not want to inhibit learning and awareness; be assured that this training is delivered in a sensitive and professional manner.

Norman, on behalf of Molly and Julie

Please register your place on this course asap via the Sharks Website Session Registration Page.

Annual General Meeting

We will be holding our Annual General Meeting, at SnoZone, Castleford on Saturday 29th April at 11:30 until 12:30.

This will be an opportunity for Club Members to hear an Update from Sharks Ski Club over the last 12 months, receive the Club Accounts, and Elect the Officers of the Club.  As always, it is great opportunity for willing volunteers to get involved in the running of the club, and this year is no exception.

The current Club Committee positions and members can be seen on our website here…

As always, members are encouraged to apply for any of the Committee positions.

This year we are going to have some definite vacancies on the committee as the following people have decided to stand down from their positions: Dave White – Chairman, David Henery – Vice Chairman, and Vicky Houston – Membership Secretary.  I would like to thank them all for their hard work for the club over the last few years.
If you would like more information about the different roles, or how the committee runs, then please feel free to contact me, or speak to me or any of the other committee members

If you think you would like to get involved, then send me your nomination.  You can nominate yourself, or someone else on their behalf. If you would like to stand then please send your Nominations to me by email to by 26th of April, please.

Look forward to seeing you all there.

Saturday 4th February

There is lots going on at Sharks Ski Club this Saturday…

Will You be skiing with us at Castleford, or entering the slalom races at Pendle…?
Details of booking for these sessions below.

Don’t forget that the new session payment system starts this week

From This Saturday, you will no longer be able to obtain your SnoZone slope pass directly from us at Sharks Ski Club.

You will need to pay for your pass at the SnoZone front desk.

We anticipate that for the first few weeks there will be long queues at the check in desk, as skiers will need to be registered on SnoZone’s system.  If you haven’t already done so, then please fill in the registration form for each member of the family that intends to ski.
You can download the Form HERE

Please fill in the Form and return it to the SnoZone Front Desk (not to us…)

It is important that you continue to register your intent to ski each week, by logging onto our website here….
This allows us time to organise instructors for each group, and make the session run more efficiently.

Another important change is the need to reintroduce Subs, for those members skiing with Sharks.
For this reason we plan to start charging £2 per session per skier.
Please pay this directly to Sharks at our usual meeting point before going on the slope.

For Clarity, the new process is summarised below…

  1. Download, complete and Return SnoZone form
  2. Register Your Intent to Ski on the Sharks Website
  3. Arrive In Plenty of Time Saturday Morning
  4. Buy Slope Pass from SnoZone front desk.
Ask for A Sharks Pass which should be £25.59 or £29.59
  5. Pay Subscriptions to Sharks Ski Club
  6. Collect any hire Ski’s, Boots, Helmets etc
  7. Be Ready to Ski for 9am prompt.
  8. Have a great time skiing with Sharks

A fun Slalom event traditionally well represented by ‘Sharks’.

A great team relay event open to all ages and abilities from the Under Sixes to the Under Seventies!

This really is a fun morning of tag slalom racing which evokes a fantastic team spirit and is a great introduction to racing without the normal race day pressures of the more formal events.  Expect lots of action, you won’t be stood around for long, and we’re finished by lunch time!

Please confirm your interest with me as soon as possible so that I can put the teams together, they have to be in for Thursday evening. Should you need more information please e-mail Paul Smith or text/message him on 07774 845 444 (under 18’s please copy in a parent/guardian).
Hope to see you at one of our sessions on Saturday,

Sharks Ski Club Secretary

Save the Date – Sharks Ski Holiday 2018

Dear Sharks Members,

I am sure a many of you were disappointed that we were unable run a holiday in the Alps this year.  The logistics of a late Easter, and variable half term dates unfortunately were too difficult to overcome.

Next Year, 2018, we plan to return to Wengen, Switzerland, to the Hotel Falken.  This has been the location of some really memorable Sharks Holidays in the past, although not for several years. I am sure some of the older members will be able to fill you in on the details over a “coffee” in the bar.

Next year Easter falls within the Ski Season at Wengen, and we plan to run the Holiday from 31/3/18 to 7/4/18.
This coincides most School half-term dates, and also Easter (Good Friday is 30/3/18).

We hope that as many of you as possible can join us, to make it a really fantastic occasion.

Full details, such as prices, travel arrangements/transfers etc., are still being worked out.  More information will be circulated in due course.

Expressions of interest are welcome, as are any informal inquiries to our Committee Members.

Sharks Ski Club Secretary,
